Touch of traditional: I only chose when I felt it myself
I had two options: a traditional white rocker switch like the ones you see everywhere. Or a glass touch panel from Thorn, supplied by Thornwood. My partner had already made her choice. I hadn't.
“As long as the light works,” I added.
But I kept repeating it. Until I tried it myself.
One touch. No click. No resistance. Just light. And silence.
That was the moment I understood what a switch can be.
We have become accustomed to mediocrity
The standard switch isn't bad. It does its job. But like a plastic faucet or a yellowed doorknob, it doesn't tell you anything about who you are.
He's just part of it. But it doesn't feel like a choice.
When we upgraded our downstairs, my partner wanted to get rid of that standard feeling. She chose Thorn. And I went with her. Hesitantly. Because: would it really work?
But the touch switches did everything I was used to – only better.
What I saw, felt and learned
| Characteristic | Traditional | Touch of Thorn |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Plastic, white | Glass, in black, white or champagne |
| Operation | Press and click | Light touch, whisper quiet |
| Sustainability | Wears out over time | Wear-resistant glass, colourfast |
| Feeling | Practical | Comfortable and conscious |
| Experience | Just | Stylish, calm, refined |
It's not about technology. It's about feeling.
After a week, I forgot I ever hesitated. Thorn's switches became part of my home experience.
The subtle lighting in the panels. The way you touch them. The fact that I no longer hear a click when I turn off the light in the evening. It seems small. But it's precisely those details that create peace.
My advice for doubters
I get you. I was you. But take a single touch switch. Place it next to a standard one. Use it for a few days. And feel the difference.
Then you're not choosing because you have to. You're choosing because you don't want to go back.

For those who, like me, thought that switching is just switching, and then coming back from that.
